BRISTOL PIRATE RADIO RECORDINGS

This blog is intended for me to post my pirate radio recordings. Most of the recordings are from Bristol, most will be pirate but there will be some legal stations and stations from other cities or national stations.

IF YOU OR YOUR FRIENDS HAVE ANY TAPE RECORDINGS OF PIRATE RADIO FROM BRISTOL, PLEASE SUBMIT THEM TO THIS BLOG BY RECORDING THEM TO MP3 (CLICK HERE FOR A HELP GUIDE) AND UPLOADING THEM TO http://www.sharebee.com, or a similar site such as Megaupload, Mediafire, ZShare, but not Rapidshare as it's getting a bit hard to use. SEND THE URL IT GIVES YOU TO ME VIA A COMMENT ON MY LATEST POST or BY EMAIL AT bristolpirates at gmail.com (you'll have to correct that with the proper @ symbol, I started getting spam on the address). WE COULD ALSO ARRANGE A PICK-UP OF YOUR TAPES IF YOU LIVE IN BRISTOL AND CAN'T CONVERT TAPES TO MP3. THANKS IN ADVANCE, YOU WILL BE CREDITED.

Passion at Christmas

Although there seems to be a massive humm on it from time to time, Passion Radio Bristol can once again be found on 106.2FM for the time being and just in time for Christmas :)

Rage FM website and stream back up and running

Rage FM have suffered a few technical problems with their stream in the last couple of weeks, but all is back to normal now.

You can find them at http://ragefm.org.uk/.

Soon, I'm told, they will be up and running on a 128k stream.

One show has been uploaded here so far, check back for more.

Bradley Stoke Radio

BSR is back for another RSL right now on 87.7FM. They have also won the full time community license, so let's hope Ofcom give them a decent spot on the dial. Radio shows featuring local music aren't just focusing on BS32 / 34 etc... though. Any local musicians might like to get in touch with Dave Rogers via daverogers@djdaverogers.com http://www.bradleystokeradio.org.uk/index.php/sound-syndicate

Rage FM Taunton - Audio!

Rage are not available in Bristol on FM AFAIK, although you may find them on 100.6 if you are in the far southern reaches and on a hill or something I guess. So, only way for us Bristolites to hear them is on the stream, which is unforunately a bit buggered right now. There is a temp stream though at http://s10.myradiostream.com/24800.htm. Otherwise, here's a taster of their output from Friday...

Links killed by the FBI.

I would've recorded the guest DJ shows, but without the old online stream ripping server we had access to a while back, I can't do that and spend time with the missus simultaneously :/

I'm really enjoying listening, especially as there is nothing in Bristol on FM of interest at the moment (listening to Passion online isn't the same I find). Nice to know that pirate radio is still worth something outside of London / Essex / Midlands in the age of the net.

Some action in the stix.

The Pirate Archive big update!

Pretty much all of my tapes are now available at The Pirate Archive. There may still be more to rip, and the information for all of the new pages needs refining, but this update is the big one. If you have any good background information on the stations listed, please get in contact!

For those having trouble navigating, here's the Bristol front page... http://www.thepiratearchive.net/bristol.html

Mark Devlin Blog / Huge load of 80s / 90s tapes...

I see ex-Galaxy Radio DJ Mark Devlin has posted a massive list of tapes from the 80s and 90s including the Trevor Nelson tape that appeared on this blog a while back (and tonight was sampled in a Jaguar Skillz mix on Trevor Nelson's Radio One show). Here is the list...

...and of course that will allow you to view Mark's blog in general. He has posted some of his own shows up in the list too BTW :)

Bristol Static to launch properly.

Apparently 'Bristol Static will properly launch on November 1st 2011.' - http://bristolstatic.co.uk/

Whether this is anything to do with the carrier heard on 105FM earlier this year, or the rumors I heard of a group of activists setting up a station, or if it's going to be on FM at all, we'll have to wait and see.

92.4 Gloucester

No idea what this is, but...

"The only unaccounted for signal (in Gloucester) was on 92.4, sandwiched between BBC Radio Three relays and playing MOR with no RDS read out"

Anybody in Gloucester know what it is?

Bradley Stoke Radio

Only giving this one a mention because I'm about 10 mins walk from the studio where I live. It's testing right now and will be on 87.7 for the next couple of weeks whilst the BS Fest is on. No idea what we are going to hear, but the music on the test was pretty MOR. BCFM are involved in the training and I expect are helping with the technical side of things too. With any luck some of the local kids will be allowed to play some DnB or something.

Ofcom propaganda on 87.7 in London

Ofcom have been broadcasting their own propaganda message on 87.7 across parts of London...

We all know their game. Tell the public that pirate radio endangers lives and get them on Ofcom's side. There ARE some problems, agreed, but...

"There are no excuses for causing excess interferance. Yes you can expect a certain amount of de-sense to local receivers due to the relatively high signal levels produced by the output-transmitter. Good filtering of harmonics, and a well positioned aerial will sort out the vast majority of these problems. The authorities will claim that your equipment could cause interferance to the emergency services as it is not built to a high standard. This is un-true if you build and install your transmitters well and monitor their output for frequency stability, over-deviation, and harmonics.

I spent five years working for the radio section of the ambulance service and I never once had an interferance complaint tracable to a pirate station. Minicabs and french stations were the largest source of problems, and then second only to faults on our own kit or operator errors."

Taken from - http://www.qq22.demon.co.uk/playground/page/pr1.html

FACT : Community stations and even the BBC themselves have been known to interfere with things, it's the nature of radio. There are ways to avoid it and a pirate that cares will take measures to do that.

Irie FM (Midlands) raid caught on camera

Not an amazingly exciting video, but this was caught by IrieUK's own webcam. One of the Ofcom officers is Mike Bothma, who has been in his job for years and is well known by the pirates in the Midlands.

Recent events...

LASER HOT HITS - 95.1FM - NE SOMERSET

I can't believe I've not mentioned this before, or if I have the search isn't working and I can't find my post about it. Laser Hot Hits, the famous UK SW Rock pirate, has an FM relay in NE Somerset on 95.1FM. Apparently it can be heard from about J18 of the M4 all the way to Clevedon. I can't hear it where I am, it may not be on when I try to tune in, but it's power has been increased recently according to the LHH website. It's odd that they don't use 95.2 as that is more directly between the two local BBC frequencies of 94.9 and 95.5, but as the 95.5 one is for Somerset I guess it's best to steer clear of it.

PASSION RADIO BRISTOL

Recent posters were advertising the 106.2FM frequency and since then there has been a rig confiscation which put the station off air for a few weeks. It came back on in the last week and I was listening to it earlier, but it seems to have disappeared now. However...

105FM???

I'm not even sure this is a positive, but tonight I'm getting a carrier jumping in and out on 105FM. Sounds a bit like somebody setting up a rig. Maybe Passion have decided to move frequency finally? Maybe it's the return of Ragga? Maybe it's something new? It could turn out to be some faulty equipment near me putting out a carrier.

UPDATE - Terry Star confirms there is a carrier on 105, although it's 'quite clear' where he is.

UPDATE -  The rig on 105 was off by mid day on Friday 11th March. I have not heard it since, but I've been busy. No return of Passion on 106.2 either.

Bristol Static

Google alerts just threw this up...

http://bristolstatic.co.uk/

I have no idea if this is on FM. The founder has run FM pirates in the states apparently...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_%22Monkey_Man%22_Roberts

The stream is playing a lot of late 70s early 80s New Wave stuff at the moment, with a bit of Reggae.

If anybody around Stokes Croft can be arsed flicking through the FM dial, let me know if you hear it ;)

Ragga FM video 1998

Big up Mike Wiley for uploading his in-studio footage of Ragga FM to YouTube!
